It’s been weeks since the last entry, or even months since the last entry “in English”.
Plenty of things have happened in the last few weeks, but let me just put them all aside for now and for good and instead start talking about today.
I just watched a movie Paterson from Jim Jarmusch at a theater and I should say, before I even start talking about the film, I really like this just-out-of-a-theater state of mind which I feel like as if I’m still in a film as walking down my neighborhood. It’s half real and half fictional, and at this moment, I don’t even bother dropping by my favorite bars to say hi to my people, which I usually do.
The movie, which I decided to watch without knowing anything but the name of Jim Jarmusch,” was something way far from being described as dramatic and thrilling but was really soothing and lovely. Soothing, I mean. I recommend this movie to everybody feeling a bit down. And oh, I really loved this one poem by William C. Williams (or Carlo W. Carlos, haha) cited in the film. Here it is.

I want to give my plum to someone who can cherish this poem with me. That kind of thing is important, isn’t it?
By the way, throughout the ether film, I was like wondering “Who is this guy, Paterson. I know him. I’m sure I know him. I just can’t remember which film I saw him in..!! Agh.” And now I know who he is as I asked Teacher Google at home. His name is Adam Driver and was not in a film but in a TV series called “Girls.” Well, I think he is such talented. (You know what I mean if you have ever watched this TV series and know this character Adam played by Adam.)
Well...
What am I even talking about?
I’m behind of all my works and I guess I just wanted to forget about all of that and run away.
ジム・ジャームッシュの映画「パターソン」を観て来た
思い立ったのが映画が始まる１時間前
ほぼ部屋着のまま歩いて駅まで行って、電車に乗って渋谷まで
なんなら途中「いきなりステーキ」でステーキ200gまで食べてしまって
ドアtoドアで３０分で渋谷の映画館まで行けるって
かなり素晴らしいことだと思う
さて映画
ジム・ジャームッシュの新作、ということしか知らずに
トレーラーはもとより、あらすじすらチェックせずに挑んだ
一言で言うなら、soothing で lovey（おもいっきり二言だが）
米ニュージャージー州パターソン出身の詩人William C. Williamsを軸にしたお話
作中に出てきた彼の「This Is Just To Say」という詩がもう最高で
一瞬でファンになってしまったという まぁ単純な話
でも人生そんなもんだから
（それにしてもAllen Ginsbergも、パターソン出身だったらしい。勝手にサンフランシスコかと思ってただけにビックリ。どうでもいいけどHOWLのトートバックを持ってる人を都内で見かける度に、そのうち何割の人が実際にHOWLを読んだことがあるのかが気になる。ちなみに私はない。）
映画のラストにちょろっと出て来た大阪のサラリーマン詩人（永瀬正敏）が「詩を翻訳するという行為は、レインコートを着てシャワーを浴びるようなもんだ」と言ってたのはその通りだけど、とりあえず意味は知ったほうが楽しんじゃないかということで拙い翻訳つけます。それと同時に、原文を口に出して読んで、リズム感の心地良さを感じとれればひとまず良いんじゃないかと思います。
